Project of Solar Thermal Power Technology and System Demonstration Accepted

One of the key projects in National Hi-Tech R&D programme (863)during the China 11th Five-Year Plan, Solar Thermal Power Technology and System Demonstration undertaken by Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences was accepted on July 6. At Badaling solar thermal experimental base, the expert group first listened to the WP3 report of research on high-reliable receiver, heat transfer and thermal storage method and system establishment presented by the task leader Dr. Zhifeng Wang and Dr. Li Xin and then inspected the research achievements of the power plant. all the tasks in the project have been completed and all the indicators set in the contract have been met successfully. Through the implementation of this project, the project undertakers built up the first MW-level solar thermal power plant in China as well as the first MW-level tower power plant in Asia. All key technologies in this project have 100% independent intellectual property rights. Since the first steam production (4MPa,400℃) on July 19, 2011, the solar receiver has been working safely for more than 300 hours. In addition, the undertakers also completed the construction of power generating facilities that was not specified in the contract. Currently the steam turbine has been commissioned and the whole system of solar - thermal – electricity has been working very well. The completion of this project has laid the foundation for the development of solar thermal power technology in China, which is of great practical significance to the promotion of solar thermal power industry of China.
