The Dunhuang New Energy City Development Plan, which was elaborated by the Consulting & Training Center for RE Power of IEE and Sino-Bright Investment Consulting Co., Ltd, has passed the appraisal meeting held by CECEP Consulting Co., Ltd entrusted by Gansu Development and Reform Commission on 13th March, 2011 in Beijing. More than 30 experts and representatives from National Energy Commission、Gansu Development and Reform Commission、Jiuquan Energy Commission、Dunhuang government attended the meeting.
Dunhuang is a typical area with rich solar resource in China, its broad and flat deserted ground is very suitable for large scale development of solar power generation.
In 2009, the first grid-connected PV concession bidding project, Dunhuang 10 MW grid-connected PV demonstration project, was launched, which means the prelude of Dunhuang large scale solar energy development started.
For responding the call of promote 100 New Energy City Construction of National Energy Commission, the Dunhuang municipality commissioned the Sino-Bright investment & Consulting Co., Ltd and the Consulting & Training Center for RE Power of IEE to elaborate the Dunhuang New Energy City Development Plan. On the basis of report of Dunhuang Solar Industry Development Plan finished in 2009, comprehensive investigation and study on local resources and economy conditions were implemented, the plan put forward the development goal, methods and scheme for Dunhuang new energy city construction.
The experts went through the plan with hot discussions, and agreed that:
1. As one of the world cultural heritages and a famous tourist city, It has great significance to build Dunhuang city as a national new energy demonstration city.
2. This plan has very important meaning of guidance of the new energy development in Dunhuang.
3. It is beneficial to improve the level of new energy utilization by micro-grid, electric vehicles, and other schemes. The out door PV testing and training center is far-sighted, which is beneficial to improve the comprehensive competitive ability of Dunhuang solar industry.
4. This planning will completely change the configuration of energy supply and consumption of Dunhuang city, which makes its most energy and electricity demand come from solar energy, and even make Dunhuang become a negative emission city to output a mass of green electricity to other cities. This will be a good demonstration in Gansu province as well as in whole China. Dunhuang shall benefit and become more famous in the world.
