Prof. Xiaolin Wang from the University of Wollongong, Australia visited IEECAS and gave lectures to the researchers and students on May. 29th, 2015. Prof. Yanwei Ma, the director of the Superconducting & New Energy Materials Department presided over the lecture. The lecture was entitled with “Some research progress and grand design of new materials and properties”.Prof. Xiaolin Wang gave a brief introduction in fields of superconductors, multiferroics, magnetism, thermoelectric materials and energy materials. His team found that the magnetic Jc of Sr122 tapes from IEECAS were significantly enhanced under high pressure. He also presented the latest progress on the discovery of new class of advanced functional materials, and the discovery of their new phenomena and new devices. Novel approaches for designing new types of functional materials developed in his team over the years for novel electronic and multi-functional properties had be discussed based on re-design or new freedom of band structures, crystal structures, functionalities, and new space dimensions. New physics and potential applications in spintronics, electronics, multiferroics on a number of novel gapless semiconductors, topological insulators, novel three dimensional Dirac gapless materials and other new types of zero gap materials was also addressed. After the lectures, Prof. Xiaolin Wang kindly answered some questions from the audience. |
