Prof. Simon Furbo Visit IEECAS
  Date:2015-05-25

On the morning of May 22th, Prof. Simon Furbo, who works in the Department of Civil Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, had given us a marvelous academic report on the topic of solar heating plants. First of all, he introduced the principle of the solar heating plants and the status of engineering practice in Europe. By the end of 2013, there were 192 large scale solar heating plants in Europe, while 50 of them were built in Denmark. Meanwhile, 37 solar heating plants which are lager than 5000 m² in Europe, whilst 30 in Denmark. Secondly, he addressed and shared abundant design experience on the large-scale solar heating plants in Denmark by taking concrete examples such as solar heating plants of Marstal, Dronninglund,Brædstrup and so on. Based on the discussions on thermal performances of the flat-plate solar collectors as well as the concentrating tracking solar collectors, control strategy of the systems, thermal characteristics of solar seasonal heat storage systems with water pond storage or borehole storage, the technical measures of inlet and outlet arrangement, etc., he arrived to the conclusion that, water ponds and borehole stores are promising long term heat stores for solar heating plants. Additionally, he gave the reasons for rapid growth of Danish solar heating plants. His professional report could give a good example for the development of solar heating plants in China, since 2/3 areas in northern China have a promising potential to develop solar space heating due to higher solar irradiance in China (>1400 kWh/m² year) than that in Denmark (1100 kWh/m² year).
