On June 6, IAP co-chair Prof. Volker ter Meulen companied by the executive secretary of EASAC, Dr. Christiane Diehl, visited IEECAS. The director of the institute Prof Xiao, Liye and the director of academic committee Prof. Kong, Li attended the meeting.
After a warm welcome speech, Prof. Xiao briefly introduced the newly research on renewable energy and smart grid in the institute. Then Prof. Kong gave a presentation about the project of “Study on Promoting the Distributed Renewable Energy and Smart Micro-Grid”, which suggested by the former CAS President Lu, Yongxiang. During the report, the guests asked questions on concern issues and Prof. Meulen also talks about the energy consumption in Germany and the renewable energy utilization in Europe and Africa at present and the plan in the future. He also motioned the “Smart Village” project which IAP is about to undertake recently.
The report of “Study on Promoting the Distributed Renewable Energy and Smart Micro-Grid” mainly contains four parts: first, the distributed renewable energy and smart micro-grid technology development and research around the world; second, potential distributed renewable energy application in China; third, the economic feasibility and the industrial development pattern analysis and the development roadmap and the last, safeguard measures and policy recommendations. Currently, the project has gathered around 30 professors, who are also elites in the renewable energy research field, from several top research institutes, universities or industrial companies in China. According to the plan, this project would be completed by the end of 2014.
