Professor Feng Xiao Visited IEECAS
  Date:2013-04-01

On March 19, 2013, Prof. Feng Xiao from Tokyo Institute of Technology visited IEECAS and gave a presentation titled “A Practical Multi-moment Finite Volume CFD Model for Multi-fluid Interfacial Flows”.

First, the experts from both sides introduced the research progress and engineering projects which have been completed respectively, and exchanged ideas on issues of common concerns.

Then, Prof. Xiao presented the underlying idea and the basic formulation of VSIAM3(Volume/Surface Integrated Average based Multi-Moment Method)and the extensions to make it applicable to various practical problems. Numerical module for multi-fluid interfacial flows was particularly paid attention in his presentation.

All the audiences enjoyed Prof. Xiao’s novel and interesting topics. Prof. Xiao shared his experiences in oil-water gas multiphase flow problems of electromagnetic fluid oil slicks recovery technology, fluid-structure interaction problems of floating wave power generation technology and multiphase flow problems of biological electromagnetic.

Prof. Xiao has been working on computational mechanics and physics for over 20 years. He is currently serving as the chair of climate change division of the inter-departmental organization for environment and energy in Tokyo Institute of Technology, and associate editor of Journal of Computational Physics. He is a recipient of the Computational Mechanics Achievement Award of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (2011) and the fellow award of Japan Association for Computational Mechanics (2009)for his great contribution in computational mechanics and physics.
