Prof. H. Kumakura Invited by IEE as a Visiting Professor
  Date:2009-08-05

On Dec. 16, 2008, Prof. H. Kumakura, from National Institute for Materials Science(NIMS), Japan, was invited by Institute of Electrical Engineering, CAS as a visiting professor to deliver a lecture on “Research and Development of MgB2 tapes, wires and films in NIMS”. Prof. Yanwei Ma, the vice-director of Applied Superconductivity Laboratory and group leader of Superconducting Materials Group, hosted a welcome ceremony for Prof. Kumakura. Prof. Liye Xiao, the Director of IEE, attended the award ceremony and presented the letter of appointment to Prof. Kumakura.

Prof. H. Kumakura, the famous international Superconducting Expert, is Director of Superconducting Materials Center, NIMS. His interests are centered on development of the high performance Bi-based high-Tc oxide, MgB2 and Nb3Al superconducting tapes and wires. With his colleagues, he has published above 500 reviewed papers and applied 15 Japanese patents and 5 International patents.

In this lecture, Prof. Kumakura introduced four main contents including thin films, impurity doping to PIT processed tape, application of Mg diffusion method to the fabrication of wires and magnet fabrications with PIT tape. After the lecture, Prof. Kumakura had a discussion with some researchers and students on the research fields.
