Famous Superconducting Specialist David C. Larbalestier Visited IEE
  Date:2009-07-22

Professor David C. Larbalestier from National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, USA, visited Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEE), CAS on Oct. 20, 2008, and delivered a lecture on “Pnictide and YBCO superconductors for high-field magnet”. Prof. Yanwei Ma, the vice-director of Applied Superconductivity Laboratory, chaired this lecture and more than 30 researchers from different groups in IEE attended this lecture.
Prof. David C. Larbalestier is the Director of the Applied Superconductivity Center, and Chief Materials Scientist in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the Institute of Physics (UK) and of National Academy of Engineering. His interests are centered on the manufacture, understanding and application of superconducting materials, both the metallic low temperature superconductors like Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn and the newer high temperature superconductors like MgB2, Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox, (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox and YBa2Cu3O7-x. With his colleagues, he has published above 300 reviewed papers and given more than 100 invited talks and seminars.
